SSC Steno Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University as of the crucial date mentioned in the notice.
• Age Limit: For Stenographer Grade C, the age should be between 18 to 30 years. For Stenographer Grade D, the limit is 18 to 27 years. The cut-off date for age calculation is August 1, 2026.
• Mandatory Requirement: Aspirants must be proficient in Stenography. Those who qualify the computer-based exam will have to appear for a shorthand skill test (Dictation and Transcription).
• Age Relaxation: Upper age limit relaxation applies as per government norms: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and 10 years for PwBD candidates.
• Nationality / Domicile: The candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan as per the standard SSC guidelines.

SSC Steno Selection Process 

• Stage 1: Computer Based Examination (Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions)
• Stage 2: Skill Test in Stenography (Qualifying in nature)
• Stage 3: Document Verification (DV) by the User Departments
• Final Merit / Document Verification: Based on performance in the Computer Based Examination and department preference.

1. Visit the official website of the Staff Selection Commission at ssc.gov.in.
2. If you are a new user, complete the 'One-Time Registration' (OTR) process by providing basic details.
3. Once registered, log in using your Registration Number and Password.
4. Navigate to the Apply tab and select Stenographer Grade C & D Examination 2026.
5. Fill in the required details, including your educational qualifications and preference for exam centers.
6. Upload your recent photograph and signature as per the specifications mentioned in the notification.
7. Pay the application fee of ₹100 through the online payment gateway (unless exempted).
